B.C. COVID-19 case count grows by 531; 42 new cases in Interior

VICTORIA — B.C. is reporting 531 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday (Mar. 10), including 42 within Interior Health.

The totals come in a prepared update from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

There have been a total of 85,650 cases of the virus found in B.C. since the pandemic arrived, spread out as follows:

19,993 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 147)
50,188 — Fraser Health (up by 291)
2,613 — Island Health (up by 19)
7,712 — Interior Health (up by 42)
4,985 — Northern Health (up by 32)
159 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

There are 4,861 active cases of the virus in B.C. Wednesday, down by eight from Tuesday. Among them, there are 244 patients hospitalized and 66 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 377 active cases, up by 15 from Tuesday. There are 14 people in hospital and five in critical care.

One more person has died of COVID-19, lifting the provincial death toll to 1,394. The death did not occur in Interior Health. Regionally, the death toll remains at 108.

The province has found 51 new cases classified as variants of concern, with a total of 627 variant cases now seen in B.C., 109 of which are still active.

Health officials are monitoring 9,051 people due to direct COVID-19 exposure.

A further 79,309 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 93 per cent of all known cases.

Meantime, Henry says the province has doled out 355,340 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, 86,960 of which are second doses.
