North Shore BIA collecting donations for women’s shelter

KAMLOOPS — The North Shore Business Improvement Association (NSBIA) is collecting clothing items for women and children in need.

Throughout the month of March, the NSBIA is asking people to donate pyjamas and socks of all sizes. These items will be given to the women’s shelter at the Emerald House where supply is running low.

“We did this a couple of years ago and we did really well, so we wanted to do it again,” said NSBIA Marketing Director Patti Phillips. “As the women go into the shelter, they often have children with them and they’re given pyjamas and socks as they walk in. So, they’re getting really low. We’re asking for new pyjamas and socks, anywhere from extra small to XXX-Large, children anywhere from newborn right up to tweens.”

The items can be donated at the NSBIA office on Tranquille Road, but Phillips says people should call ahead first to make sure someone will be there.

Donations will be accepted until March 25.

“We were lucky last time, we had a couple of businesses that said, ‘You know, we don’t have pyjamas and socks but can we help you out with a cheque?’ We said, ‘Yes’ and we went shopping,” Phillips said. “We had bags and bags and bags last time; we were very lucky. I guess we just appreciate anything that the community can give, whether it be a business or anywhere in the community that can give would be great.”

The NSBIA can be reached at (250) 376-2411.
