Fire crews battle blaze at Tournament Inn

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops fire crews called out this morning ( March 2) to fight a blaze that destroyed one unit at the Tournament Inn Motel in Valleyview.

Platoon Captain Mike Haines says crews were called at 4:15 this morning. Several units including a ladder truck responded to the fire. Captain Haines says when crews arrived, the unit was fully involved, with flames coming out both sides of the building.

Crews extinguished the blaze within an hour or so, but Haines says aside from the unit involved, there is some damage to the units on either side. That wing of the motel has been shut down, and Emergency services are dealing with several people who were displaced.

At this point, Captain Haines says they haven’t determined a cause, but investigators will be checking the site out today. He says as far as they know at this point, there were no injuries. It’s not known if the unit was occupied at the time.
