Large shop destroyed in Westsyde fire

KAMLOOPS — Several crews responded to a structure fire yesterday afternoon in the 6000 block of Westsyde Road. Apparently a large shop was destroyed.

It was fully involved when firefighters arrived after being called out around 4:30 PM. No cause revealed yet. Investigators were at the scene last night and will likely be back this morning.

Captain Mike Haines says initial response by the fire crew in Westsyde consisted of two firefighters who initially worked at preventing the spread of the blaze until other crews arrived from other halls.

The fire burned through the roof, and the building partially collapsed from the damage. Haines says the building was not directly attached to any other structures, and crews were able to prevent the spread to other nearby buildings.
