Avalanche Canada: North and South Columbia given high danger rating for Monday

REVELSTOKE, B.C. — No travel is recommended in the backcountry in the North and South Columbia regions for Feb. 22.

Avalanche Canada gave both regions a four-out-of-five danger rating for Monday, meaning avalanche conditions are “very dangerous” and travel in the terrain is not recommended.

Natural avalanches are likely and human-triggered avalanches are very likely.

Avalanche Canada’s ratings are for the back country, which is accessed by snowmobilers, skiers, snowboarders and snowshoers. The forecasts don’t apply to transportation corridors for highways or railways.

In North Columbia, continued snowfall, mild temperatures and strong winds are described as a recipe for high avalanche danger. In the South, there is new snow, mild temperatures and strong winds. Avalanche Canada describes both as a recipe for high avalanche danger.
