Winter storm watch issued for Hope to Merritt section of Coquihalla Highway
MERRITT — Environment Canada has issued a winter storm watch for several BC highways today, including the Coquihalla.
The forecast says the Hope to Merritt stretch will see heavy rain and wet snow coming down throughout Sunday (Feb. 21) afternoon and evening. Up to 25 cm of snowfall can be expected near the summit level by Monday morning.
The winter storm watch is also in effect for Highway 3 – Hope to Princeton via Allison Pass. Heavy rain is expected tonight with potential for heavy snow at the summit.
Environment Canada says a warm airmass will pass over southern B.C tonight, bringing heavy rain over most of the highways before a cold front moves in and snow levels drop below the summit.
