WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — The province says residents of the Cariboo-Chilcotin will now have access to expanded day surgery services at Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake.

In a news release, Health Minister Adrian Dix says five different areas of surgery will now be available at the hospital. Several of those surgical areas have previously been available in Kamloops for Williams Lake-area residents.

Three of the surgical areas began operation in late 2020, while two are set to be offered beginning early this year.

These are the services that will now be available in Williams Lake:

  • pediatric dental surgery provided by local dentists Dr. Nadeem Ahmad and Dr. Simmy Dhillon
  • cataract surgery provided by Dr. Michael Ross, who operates a clinic in Kamloops and provides community clinics in Williams Lake during his monthly visits
  • ear, nose and throat surgical services provided by Dr. John Cleland from Kamloops, who will also provide community clinics in Williams Lake
  • orthopedic surgery, provided by Dr. Tyler MacGregor, an orthopedic surgeon who practices out of Kamloops and already provides community clinics at CMH
  • urology surgery, provided by Dr. Ellen Forbes, who will provide surgical services and community clinics
