KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops-Thompson School District says its overall completion rate rose last year, but dropped for Aboriginal students.

In a news release, Superintendent Terry Sullivan says the number of Grade 8 students who graduated within six years was 89.5 per cent for the 2019-20 school year. That is a slight increase from last year’s completion rate of 88.3 per cent.

For Aboriginal students, the rate decreased from 84.1 per cent in 2018-19 to 78.7 per cent last year.

The district has long put a focus on bringing the Aboriginal completion rate up to the same level as all students, and Sullivan says that has not changed.
