KAMLOOPS — Racing is in Jason White’s blood.

His father Marty White, a Sports Hall of Fame’er, is a longtime super modified and West Coast Vintage driver. His older brother Jim is a race car driver. Jason has a background in speed skiing, mini sprint and street stock cards in the CASCAR and Pinty’s Series.

This past weekend he was at Daytona for three races. The Daytona International Speedway is one of the most iconic racing tracks in the world.

Last weekend was Jason White’s fifth time at the home of the speedways most famous race — the Daytona 500.

White says he still gets goosebumps every time he gets behind the wheel on the Daytona Speedway.

“It never loses its shine.” says White. “You get out there and you do your first lap and after that it’s like wow, I can’t believe how amazing this is.”

Last Friday night White was one of 38 trucks in the starting grid for the 250 mile NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

Looking to improve on a career best top 10 finish in 2020 White and his #33 truck got collected in other drivers mishaps — and didn’t get the finish he was hoping for — winding up 20th.

A night later in the 200 mile ARCA Menards series in a new Super Speedway car and another race getting caught up in a series of mishaps, then not getting a late caution flag saw White finish in 14th place.

“We’re not happy with the results we had on Friday and Saturday.” says White. “But we’re also not extremely unhappy. Both the vehicles are in pretty good shape, especially the ARCA car — it’s in great shape. I didn’t put a mark on it.”

As a freelancer, Jason White is racing for teams out of North Carolina and supported by local sponsors including Powder Ventures Excavating and the Zimmer Group — and hopes to be back behind the wheel this coming Friday night for the Daytona road race.

“What it means being a free lancer is that I’m slated to race in the car this Friday night.” says White. “But the business of this NASCAR world is that somebody could bump me out of that car in the next three days by bringing a bunch of money to the table. We’re going to stay focused though, as if we’re in the truck. It’s still looking pretty good —we haven’t had a lot of people kickin’ the door down in the last little bit.”

Oh, and if you’re wondering about that third race that Jason White was involved in last weekend — the Daytona 500 on Sunday.

“I was in Michael McDowell’s pit when they won the race. It was the coolest thing.” says White. “We have a Canadian boy out of Ontario, Mac McTighe, I’ve been kind of hanging out with him a little bit, he’s their media director and I got to hang out in their pits with them. It was so cool to see them win that race. I was in their pit celebrating with them and hanging out with Michael McDowell and the LOVES CAR on Valentines Day.”
