KAMLOOPS — While many local residents relaxed with family members over the long weekend, Kamloops Mounties were busy responding to more than 250 calls for service.

Cst. Crystal Evelyn provided these highlights to media:

RCMP say a man who went to hospital with burn injuries to his head was assaulted by another hot head.

The man showed up at Royal Inland Hospital late Saturday night (Feb. 13) with injuries consistent with his story that he had been assaulted with a blow torch.

Evelyn says the incident took place a day earlier.

A Valentine’s Day thief was doing more than taking out the recycling, according to police.

Glass was smashed at a business in the 1100-block of Columbia Street at about 4:00 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 14).

Surveillance footage showed a suspect smashing the glass and loading a recycling bin with merchandise before taking off on foot, northbound toward Summit Drive.

No suspects were located.

RCMP dealt with the same individual four separate times over the weekend.

Three of the instances involved a property on Hilltop Avenue, with the suspect banging on doors and trying to smash windows.

The fourth instance, early on Sunday, involved a man causing a disturbance at a restaurant on Fortune Drive. This time, RCMP lodged the man in cells to prevent his continued problem behaviour.
