Olivia Rodrigo Talks Inspiration

In a recent interview posted on PopCrush.com Olivia Rodrigo talked about the inspiration behind the songs she writes. She said “I think that Gwen Stefani is one of my favorite songwriters ever. She’s so honest” She says that Stefani isn’t afraid to tell a personal story that details her most private desires and thoughts.

When talking about favorite songs, she picked out No Doubt’s “Simple Kind of Life.” Written solely by Stefani, it was released in 2000 when Stefani was 31 and dating Gavin Rossdale. In it, she’s yearning to start a family while feeling conflicted with her band duties.

Rodrigo said, “Even in this song, she’s like, ‘I always thought I’d be a mom.’ I’m like, ‘Who says that?’ That’s so great.”

Rodrigo is also a Taylor Swift fan and hopes to write a song one day with Phoebe Bridges or Kid Laroi.
