KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue crews employed a quick knockdown to limit damage from a house fire in Aberdeen Friday afternoon (Feb. 12).

Crews were called to the large home on Westerdale Court during the noon hour.

Asst. Chief Ryan Cail says the extreme cold presented challenges with water freezing quickly, but crews were able to contain the flames.

“The crews managed to make a quick entrance and a really quick knockdown and managed to keep the fire contained to one small area of the home — which is really, really good considering the challenges. They had a bit of a long way getting the hose up to the house,” said Cail. “They got guys inside the house and knocked ‘er down quick.”

“Even just looking at the road, I mean the road gets challenging even to get apparatus in,” he continued. “As soon as one rig is one scene and water is flowing, we’ve got ice immediately. If we wanted to get onto the roof of this place and spray water, it’s going to be slippery. There are so many challenging aspects in the cold, it makes it really hard.”

No one was injured and there is no word as to a cause.
