One death connected to outbreak at Westsyde Care Residences; active cases decreasing at RIH
KAMLOOPS — Interior Health is now reporting one death connected to the COVID-19 outbreak at Westsyde Care Residences in Kamloops.
In a technical briefing today (Feb. 10), IH Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Albert de Villiers says there are currently 26 cases associated to the outbreak with 14 residents, and 12 staff who have tested positive. Of these cases, 17 are considered active.
Meantime the number of active cases for a separate outbreak at Royal Inland Hospital continue to decrease. As of Wednesday, Dr. De Villiers says of the 105 total cases associated to the outbreak, 40 are still active. IH says 36 patients and 69 staff members have tested positive, and one patient death is connected to the outbreak.
The newest facility outbreak in Kamloops at the Highridge Home and Singh House facility which has seven cases as of today, with one resident and six staff members affected. Six of the cases at the group home are considered active.
