SOUND OFF: More help needed for Kamloops healthcare workers targeted by vandals
Picture this: You get up, you get ready for work and arrive ready to start your day. You pull into work and drive around until you find a parking spot. You work at Ponderosa Lodge where the building has two floors full of elderly residents. You know that you may be the only face they see today since no visitors are allowed unless it is essential and this is quite depressing for all. You work hard to make sure all their needs are met and you leave feeling satisfied with your care and dedication. Once you leave, the nervousness sets in.
Why, you ask? Because there is someone targeting health care workers and putting nails and screws in their tires. An ongoing issue that has been going on for months with multiple police reports being made and more than 20 staff members affected. Someone is watching us. They watch us go to work and when we leave and have memorized our schedules. You walk to your car feeling uneasy, looking over your shoulder for anyone approaching, pull out your phone flashlight and start checking your tires. There it is: the dreaded screw someone has drilled into your tire. You stand there in disbelief, wondering how someone can be so cruel. You don’t know whether you should cry or yell profanities, or both. How are you going to make it home from here?
This is a typical day at Ponderosa Lodge.
It is frightening to know that someone is watching you and targets your vehicle while you’re at work. Recently a co-worker posted their frustration on Facebook in hopes the public would hear their plea and maybe someone, somewhere could help us. Someone stepped forward and named the culprit as a resident of Ponderosa Place (the building beside the parking stalls) and gave his apartment number. The police are on it, but there has yet to be an arrest or charge.
