B.C. COVID-19 case count at 435; 47 new cases in Interior Health

VICTORIA — B.C. has recorded 435 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday (Feb. 9), including 47 within Interior Health.

The numbers are contained in an update prepared by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

The new cases bring B.C.’s total to 71,387 cases since the pandemic arrived in the province, spread out as follows:

  • 16,415 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 107)
  • 42,425 — Fraser Health (up by 221)
  • 1,891 — Island Health (up by 23)
  • 6,768 — Interior Health (up by 47)
  • 3,849 — Northern Health (up by 37)
  • 144 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Henry says the number of active cases of COVID-19 is now 4,393, up 417 from Monday. There are 241 patients in hospital and 68 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 941 active cases, an increase of 47 from Monday. Fifty patients are in hospital with 17 in critical care.

Four more people have died of the virus, bringing the province’s death toll to 1,263. None of the deaths took place in Interior Health, leaving the regional death toll at 81.

There are 6,879 people under public health surveillance due to direct COVID-19 contact.

A total of 65,618 people have been declared fully recovered, or 92 per cent of all recorded cases.

Henry notes 155,585 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to British Columbians, including 12,802 second doses.
