Underground activities restart at New Afton mine after fatal accident

KAMLOOPS — New Gold says partial underground activities at the New Afton mine west of Kamloops have resumed after last week’s tragic mud rush incident that took the life a contract driller.

In a news release, New Gold says the area where the incident occurred “will remain closed until further notice.”

However, ore extraction has resumed and development work in the B3 and C-Zone areas has resumed.

Surface activities, including milling and tailings operations, restarted last week.

Ray Rosenberg, age 35 and the father of four, was killed last Tuesday (Feb. 2). Two others were injured.
