New Gold resumes underground work
KAMLOOPS — New Gold’s New Afton Mine has taken a significant step forward in resuming complete operations after a tragic mud rush incident February 2nd. The accident took the life of contract driller Ray Rosenberg.
In a news release this morning ( Feb 8), the Company announced that partial underground operations as well as the B3 and C-zone development activities resumed over the weekend.
President and CEO Renaud Adams says the restarting of operations is a significant move forward. But Adams says the primary focus remains on health and safety. He says counselling and support for workers and their families is continuing to help them deal with the tragedy.
The actual area where the incident occurred will remain closed until further notice. Some of the surface activities had resumed last week.
