KAMLOOPS — A 35-year old contract driller, Ray Rosenberg, has been identified by his family as the victim of a tragic incident at the New Gold Mine yesterday morning. Rosenberg leaves behind his partner and four children.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Tasha Gruber, and donations to help with emergency expenses are being accepted. The link to the page is here.

The company says the victim was killed in a mud rush incident. Three people were involved. Two New Gold employees suffered non-life-threatening injuries while the third employee did not survive.

The incident occurred at 1:40 am Tuesday morning (Feb. 2). The on-site emergency management system was activated immediately. Activities have been halted at the mine while the incident is being investigated.

In the GoFundMe page, Gruber writes: “My sister and her 4 young children are reeling with the sudden death of her partner, their daddy, Ray Rosenberg after a mining accident that tragically took his life. Ray was an amazing father, son, partner, friend, brother in law and all around person. He was the sole provider of their family and took pride in providing for them. As you can imagine, not only has his passing left his family empty physically and emotionally but sooner than later, also financially. A family should never have to stress about finances during a time like this, so we are hoping to ease that stress and worry. Anything helps and we so appreciate it. Thank you so much.”
