KAMLOOPS — What does a weekend look like for the Kamloops RCMP detachment? Hundreds of calls.

According to Cst. Crystal Evelyn, there were 306 calls between midnight Friday and 9:00 a.m. on Monday (Feb. 1).

Here are some of the more notable calls:

At about 1:13 a.m. on Saturday, RCMP were called to a stolen truck report on Tenth Avenue downtown.

Shortly after the call, members found the truck abandoned in the 1100-block Battle Street. A man matching the suspect’s description was found not far away and taken into custody.

Kamloops resident John Beauchemin, 34, is facing charges of theft of motor vehicle and driving while prohibited as well as a pair of breach charges.

An officer was bitten while attending to a mental health call.

Police were called to a Nechako Avenue home at about 8:10 p.m. on Saturday after a report that someone had shot themselves.

Attending officers confirmed no one was hurt, but while searching an individual for weapons, the person lashed out and bit the officer.

The individual was arrested for assault.

An idling pickup truck was treated as a perfect opportunity for a suspected thief Sunday.

At about 5:50 p.m., a truck was left running to warm up when someone got in the truck and drove away.

RCMP caught up to the truck, which was being pursued by its rightful owner in another vehicle, as it travelled down Tranquille Road. Officers eventually followed it to a parking lot on Dallas Drive, where the driver got out and was arrested.

The suspect was given a date to attend court.
