New school COVID-19 exposures in Cariboo, Shuswap, Merritt

KAMLOOPS — Multiple schools in Kamloops and area were added to Interior Health’s school exposure list over the weekend — some of which have been there before.

COVID-19 exposures have been reported at Summit Elementary, Sa-Hali Secondary, Valleyview Secondary and Marion Schilling Elementary parents, who were informed of the exposure in emails Sunday afternoon.

An exposure was reported for last Monday (Jan. 18) at Merritt Bench Elementary School within the Nicola-Similkameen School District.

In the Shuswap, exposures were reported on Monday (Jan. 18) at Sorrento Elementary School and Monday and Tuesday at Shuswap Middle School in Salmon Arm.

As well, in the Cariboo-Chilcotin School District, two classes at Nesika Elementary — 40 students and two staff — have been told to self isolate for two weeks after a school exposure last week.

Interior Health is performing contact tracing on the covid-19-positive individuals and is contacting those considered close contacts with those people.

Those who are not contacted by health officials are urged to attend school as normal.
