KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops RCMP officer was assaulted while responding to a disturbance call Tuesday (Jan. 19).

At about 9:30 p.m., RCMP were called to handle an aggressive and confrontational intoxicated man at a business in the 900-block of Columbia Street West. The caller noted the man was causing a disturbance with staff and customers at the business.

As the responding officers were en route, police were informed that the suspect had assaulted someone at the scene.

After their arrival, Mounties identified the suspect and tried to arrest him. In the process of the arrest, the suspect resisted and allegedly punched one of the officers several times. He was eventually taken into custody and transported to RCMP cells.
