KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say a man died on Saturday (Jan. 16) after emergency responders pulled him out of the South Thompson River.

In a release, Cst. Crystal Evelyn says around 11:34 a.m a call came in for a man in the river near the 1800-block of Kelly Douglas Road. The man had reportedly been in the water for 15 minutes and was not moving.

RCMP, BC Emergency Health Services and Kamloops Fire Rescue arrived on scene and found a man lying face up with his lower body in the water. The man was taken to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, and then Kelowna, where he died later that night.

Evelyn says police do not suspect any criminality in the man’s death at this time. The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
