COVID-19 outbreak at Gemstone Care Centre grows to 18 cases

KAMLOOPS — Interior Health says 18 people at the Gemstone Care Centre in Brocklehurst have tested positive for COVID-19.
IH says 14 residents and four staff members have been infected at the long-term care facility.
IHA Medical Health Officer Dr. Carol Fenton says the facility is working with public health to continue with sanitization and safety protocols to try and limit further spread.
“We’re cohorting the staff, making sure everything is clean, we’re making sure everyone is using their PPE correctly, and we’re doing asymptomatic testing to make sure we aren’t missing any cases. That is ongoing, and we will do what we need to do until we don’t need to anymore.”
