KAMLOOPS — The general manager of Argo Road Maintenance in Kamloops is calling for more patience and compassion after one of his workers was assaulted on the job this week.

The employee, who was filling potholes with a co-worker on the Red Bridge around 3 a.m. Monday morning (Jan 11), was assaulted by two men. Argo says the pair called for the truck to slow down before the confrontation. The one worker was punched in the face and Argo GM Derrick Power says he’ll be off work for the next nine days with a concussion.

“He’s doing fine. He’s recovering at home right now. Suffered a concussion, laceration to the face, but his spirits are good,” Power told CFJC Today.

Power said this isn’t an isolated incident. While workers aren’t often the victim of assault, they can face abusive language and aggressive people who aren’t afraid to express their displeasure in the job they do. Power hopes people can be more respectful, especially during times like these.

“I’d like to just ask for a little patience with our people. We’re all local members here. We all live in our community. We’re all trying to do our best,” he said. “Our guys come here every day, work 12-hour shifts. They’re working to make sure everybody is safe and able to get home in a timely manner.”
