Police seeking information after worker assaulted on Red Bridge

KAMLOOPS — RCMP in Kamloops are asking for any witnesses to come forward, after a man was assaulted Monday morning (Jan. 11) by the Red Bridge.

In a release, Cst. Crystal Evelyn says around 3 a.m Monday, police were called to the Red Bridge near Lorne Street for a reported assault involving a maintenance worker, and two other men.

The maintenance worker was reportedly repairing pot holes on the bridge when a dirty SUV headed southbound drove on the bridge at a high rate of speed. There was a verbal exchange between the worker and the two men in the SUV, and eventually all the men got out of their vehicles.

One of the men tried to take the worker’s shovel and during the struggle, the worker was punched – which knocked him out and caused him to fall on the road.

The two men got back in their vehicle and fled towards Lorne Street. After emergency responders arrived, the worker was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police ask anyone who may have witnessed or have information about the suspects to contact Mounties.

The suspects are described as:

• possibly South Asian or Indigenous
• males
• six-feet in height
• one was wearing all black the other may have been wearing a white tracksuit

Vehicle description:

• “dirty” sports utility vehicle; late 1990s or early 2000s model; possibly beige; ‘N’ on the lower right back corner just above the bumper.
