KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops-Thompson School District has announced who its new superintendent will be.

Dr. Rhonda Nixon was introduced to media via a Zoom call Tuesday morning (Jan. 12). She will begin on July 1. Nixon is currently the deputy superintendent of Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools in Alberta.

“I’ve had a 30 year career in which I’ve been in small centres where I’ve been a teacher and an administrator in schools that are under 100 students and in schools in urban centres that are over 1,000 students. They’re different, and I value them for their difference, and I saw that Kamloops offered that.”

Board Chair Rhonda Kershaw says she feels Nixon will be able to take over from interim superintendent Dr. Terry Sullivan seamlessly.

“When we brought in our stakeholder and our partner groups it seemed that her personality and her style of leadership really fit within our District and that she would really ensure that the good work that we’ve already begun would continue on without even a bump in the road.”

Sullivan stepped in for the retiring Alison Sidow last summer.
