MERRITT, B.C. — A Merritt man is facing charges after shots were fired during a dispute between neighbours Saturday night (Jan. 9).

According to an RCMP release, members rushed to the Kane Valley south of Merritt just before 8:00 p.m. after the report of a gun being fired from one home toward another. The Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT) responded as well.

Sgt. Josh Roda says frontline officers had to help take a man and woman from one of the homes to safety, as they were not able to get out of the home safely on their own.

A standoff with the suspect ended at about 2:00 a.m. when ERT members took him into custody without further incident. A search of the man’s home resulted in the seizure of a shotgun.
