Kamloops sees large COVID-19 spike with 68 new cases last week

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops has experienced an alarming jump in the number of COVID-19 cases recorded over the past week.

According to the latest data from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) published Wednesday (Jan. 6), there were 68 COVID-19 infections found during the week of Dec. 27 to Jan. 2. That is by far the largest weekly total ever reported for Kamloops, and up from 27 cases the previous week.

BCCDC publishes Local Health Area COVID-19 case counts weekly, every Wednesday.

Here are some other totals for the week of Dec. 27 to Jan. 2, for areas within the Interior:

• Cariboo/Chilcotin – 8 (up by 6 from last week)
• North Thompson – 0 (down by 3)
• 100 Mile House – 8 (up by 7)
• South Cariboo – 1 (up by 1)
• Lillooet – 8 (up by 6)
• Merritt – 9 (up by 7)
• Vernon – 76 (up by 28)
• Armstrong-Spallumcheen – 3 (down by 1)
• Enderby – 4 (down by 4)
• Salmon Arm — 4 (up by 2)
• Revelstoke – 37 (up by 15)
• Central Okanagan-Kelowna — 139 (down by 75)
