Crews fight house fire downtown

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE – 7:00 am- JANUARY 5TH…

Fire crews are in the mopup stages after a house fire early this morning in the 600 block of Battle Street downtown. Crews were called to 642 Battle Street at 4:00 AM ( Tuesday morning) to deal with the blaze. Fire crews responded with teams from three fire halls.

When first responders arrived, smoke and flames were showing from the basement, and the fire spread quickly to the attic. That area is blocked off to traffic.

It’s unclear at this point whether or not there were any injuries, but there were apparently a number of people displaced by the fire, who have been moved to temporary shelter.

EARLIER: 4: 30 AM- Fire crews dealing with a house fire in the 600 block of Battle Street downtown this morning (Jan 5).

When first responders arrived, smoke and flames were showing from the basement, and the fire spread quickly to the attic. That area is blocked off to traffic.

There was a report that at least one person was taken to hospital, but that has not been confirmed to this point.
