Kamloops man charged after New Year’s Day gun theft from Dufferin store
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say a stolen gun was retrieved after a New Year’s Day break-and-enter.
According to a news release, the call came in at about 1:00 p.m. on Friday (Jan. 1) at a business in the 1400-block of Hillside Drive. Responding officers were told that the suspect may have stolen a gun from the business, and were given his description. While RCMP would not confirm the identity of the business, the only business in that block that sells firearms is Canadian Tire.
Police rushed to the scene and while en route, one officer spotted a man who fit the description near Notre Dame Drive. As the officer approached, the man fled. He was eventually arrested with the help of officers called in for backup.
Back at the business, Mounties cleared the building and found the stolen firearm in the parking lot.
