B.C reports 485 new COVID-19 cases with 11 virus-related deaths

VICTORIA — According to provincial health officials, B.C recorded 485 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, and 11 more deaths.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry provided an update today, (Dec. 30) stating there are now 7,551 active cases in B.C. 379 people are in hospital, and 77 are being treated in critical care.

The Interior’s case count also grew by 57 today.

The new cases bring the total case count in B.C. to 51,300 – spread through the province as follows:

  • 12,030 — Vancouver Coastal (up 117)
  • 32,471 — Fraser Health (up by 211)
  • 917 — Island Health (up by 16)
  • 3,706 — Interior Health (up by 57)
  • 1,978 — Northern Health (up by 84)
  • 107 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

On the vaccination front, Dr. Henry says 14,027 vaccines have been given in British Columbia so far. She adds that the recently approved Moderna vaccine has arrived in 10 remote and isolated First Nations communities.
