Jade Boulder Heist

Jade boulder stolen from Cache Creek shop recovered

Dec 28, 2020 | 5:56 PM

CACHE CREEK, B.C. — A 1.4-ton jade boulder, stolen from the front of a Cache Creek gift shop more than a week ago, has been found and recovered.

In a Facebook post, Cariboo Jade and Gifts says the boulder was spotted by a passer-by who recognized it from the publicity generated by its theft earlier this month.

The post does not state where the boulder was located, though it notes the mineral was in one piece, albeit with some “scars” from its adventure.

The boulder was taken late on the evening of Dec. 19, with surveillance video showing a person using a small excavator to load it onto a flat deck trailer.

RCMP say it would not have had much value considering its size — possibly $20,000 to $50,000.

The truck and trailer used in the theft were found in the days following the theft.
