KAMLOOPS – Four employees at the Sun Peaks Grand hotel are in self-isolation after testing positive for COVID-19. Others who were in close contact with the employees are also self-isolating to prevent the infection from spreading to other areas of the community.

The hotel says it is in communication with health authorities to ensure all protocols are being met. It also says it has developed policies and procedures to manage scenarios like this.

The community was made aware of the positive tests Saturday afternoon by Dr. Shane Barclay, the Medical Director of the Sun Peaks Health Centre. “The cases were all notified the morning after their tests by our Health Centre staff, all had been self-quarantining and contact tracing was complete by noon the same day.”

According to the hotel, the cases are believed to be related to social interactions outside the workplace. It says no guests have been impacted.

“Outdoor recreation at Sun Peaks continues to be considered safe for anyone following public health direction such as physical distancing, wearing a face covering, and staying home when unwell,” the hotel says in a statement on its website.

Dr. Barclay is reminding residents to follow all health protocols, including washing their hands often. Testing is available at the new Sun Peaks Centre Monday, Wednesday and Friday. He suggests residents book an appointment through the Interior Health website if they are experiencing any symptoms.

If you are experiencing symptoms, you are expected to self-isolate immediately. Symptoms include a fever or chills, a cough, the loss of your sense of smell or taste, a sore throat, body aches and diarrhea.
