Province, Cariboo Friendship Society team up to open temporary shelter in Williams Lake
WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — The provincial government is opening a 20-bed, temporary emergency response centre to serve the homeless population in Williams Lake.
According to a news release, the shelter will be operated by the Cariboo Friendship Society. The province provides about $270,000 in operating funding.
Clients will be able to access beds in the society’s Longhouse, as well as meals, bathrooms and laundry facilities. Staff on site will help connect guests with support services in the community.
The Cariboo Friendship Society already runs a shelter in Williams Lake, but the release notes it is already at or near capacity “due to COVID-19 physical distancing guidelines.”
