Fraser Health declares two new COVID-19 outbreaks in long-term care, another two over

SURREY, B.C. — Fraser Health has confirmed two new COVID-19 outbreaks at long-term care homes in the region of British Columbia, while declaring another two over on Saturday.

The health authority says the latest outbreaks are at Fleetwood Villa, an assisted-living residence in Surrey, B.C., where two residents have tested positive, and Nicola Lodge in Port Coquitlam, where three residents are sick. 

Fraser Health says it sent outbreak response teams to both facilities and communication with residents and their families is underway. 

Residents and staff must undergo twice-daily screenings, while their movement around each facility has been restricted.

Outbreaks at White Rock Seniors Village and Bradley Centre, a long-term care home located in Chilliwack’s hospital, have been declared over as the health authority says there are no longer active cases at either location.

There were nearly 9,980 active COVID-19 infections in B.C. as of the province’s last update, with most of the new infections arising in the hard hit Fraser Health region that spans the area from Burnaby to Hope. 

The health authority recorded 406 of 624 new cases reported on Friday.

A joint statement from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix says nearly 2,600 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine had been administered to front-line health-care workers as of Friday.
