Fire breaks out in Mount Paul Way auto shop

Dec 18, 2020 | 3:23 PM

TK’EMLUPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue crews rushed to a fire at an auto shop on the Tk’emlups Reserve Friday afternoon (Dec. 18).

Flames and black smoke erupted from D and G Gill Tire and Auto on Mount Paul Way just after 3:00 p.m.

Captain Erin Holloway says the building was already involved when crews arrived.

“We showed up with heavy smoke and flames showing from the rear… side of the building. We’ve got crews on scene actioning the fire. There was a heavy fire load inside so it is taking its time,” Holloway told CFJC Today.

Holloway says firefighters will likely be keeping watch of the scene for a while.

“We’ll probably be here for a few more hours, at least. Due to the amount of fuel in there and the type of fuel, it’s going to be a tough one to put out,” she said.

No one was inside the building at the time and there is no word on a cause.
