Revelstoke RCMP fine, charge belligerent anti-masker

REVELSTOKE, B.C. — A woman in Revelstoke learned that refusing to wear a mask inside a public place can be an expensive stand to take.

According to Revelstoke RCMP, officers were called to a restaurant near the Trans Canada Highway in that community early Sunday morning (Dec. 6).

Staff at the restaurant had repeatedly asked the woman to put a mask on, as per the current order from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, but she repeatedly refused.

When Mounties arrived, the woman continued to refuse.

The 43-year-old was arrested for causing a disturbance and given paperwork to appear in court, along with conditions not to go back to that restaurant. The officer also issued the woman two $230 tickets – one for refusing to wear the mask and the other for abusive and belligerent behaviour.

Sgt. Chris Dodds of Revelstoke RCMP say both staff and Mounties tried reasoning with the woman to no avail. Dodds says RCMP will emphasize education with respect to the mask mandate, but will move to enforcement if necessary.
