Sixteen more deaths in B.C. due to COVID-19; 656 more cases including 83 in Interior

VICTORIA — The province is reporting 656 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday (Dec. 1) and 16 more deaths due to the virus.

The totals come from an update on the B.C. Centre for Disease Control online COVID-19 dashboard.

Eighty-three of the new cases were found within Interior Health.

The 656 new cases bring the provincial total to 33,894 since the pandemic arrived in B.C., distributed as follows:

  • 8,990 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 140)
  • 21,478 — Fraser Health (up by 408)
  • 639 — Island Health (up by 10)
  • 1,833 — Interior Health (up by 83)
  • 860 — Northern Health (up by 15)
  • 95 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

There are 8,796 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C., with 336 people in hospital including 76 in critical care.

Within Interior Health, there are 535 active cases, with 18 in hospital including four in critical care.

The 16 deaths bring the provincial death toll to 457.

A total of 23,774 people are considered fully recovered from COVID-19, or 70 per cent of all known cases of the virus.
