2020 Poppy Campaign

Poppy sales exceed Kamloops Legion’s expectations

KAMLOOPS — The Royal Canadian Legion in Kamloops is celebrating a successful poppy campaign during a difficult year.

The Legion was challenged by the restrictions of COVID-19, which resulted in some businesses not having the usual poppy sales in store. Nevertheless, the Legion was able to exceed its expectations and surpassed last year’s sales.

In addition to poppies, the Legion masks were a popular item this year, selling out quickly.

Legion President Daniel Martin says funds from this year’s campaign are still coming in.

“We know that it was better than even last year. It was heartwarming as a veteran to see the population helping us this year, especially with COVID-19. We know that some don’t want to go out and want to stay home and they had issues, especially with the November 11 Remembrance Day (Ceremony),” Martin said. “So, from everybody at the Kamloops Legion I want to say, ‘Thank-you very much to everybody who supported us this year.'”
