The Mustard Seed finds new interim managing director

KAMLOOPS — Following the resignation of its executive director earlier this month, The Mustard Seed in Kamloops has new leadership introduced this week.

Kelly Thomson is the interim managing director and is no stranger to the non-profit. He has been the chairman of the board for the last decade. Thomson was also involved in the merger between New Life Community Kamloops and The Mustard Seed.

“I’m comfortable with what The Mustard Seed brings. I’m excited about the opportunity to come back,” said Thomson. “I retired from my previous work life about a year ago and kind of looking for something that I could do that has purpose.”

Thomson takes over from Mario Borba, who’s leaving for a CEO position in Alberta. Thomson knows how important a place like The Mustard Seed is for the less fortunate in the city, especially during the pandemic.

“I think at these times, these places are critical. There are so many things going on. People losing jobs, hours being cut back. They may have enough money for rent, but they don’t have enough money for food, so at least they can come here, they can get food, they can get some help.”

Thomson plans to stay on for about a year until a permanent executive director is found.
