Neighbour to Neighbour program ready for errand requests during second wave

KAMLOOPS — With British Columbia experiencing a spike in new COVID-19 cases, a Kamloops volunteer group is offering to run errands for vulnerable community members or anybody who is self-isolating.

The Neighbour to Neighbour (N2N) program utilizes some of the 4,200 members on the Caremongering Kamloops Facebook page, which was created at the start of the pandemic. Volunteers who take part are asked to commit to following B.C health guidelines to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

N2N provides a way for people to get errands done while they are in isolation or if they don’t feel safe going out to stores themselves. Groups organized within different neighbourhoods throughout the city will be working to make sure vulnerable people can still have access to groceries and other necessities.

On top of the errand program, Caremongering is working with the Mt. Paul Community Food Centre to offer home cooked meals once-a-week to those who need it.

“We have folks signed up in every area of the city, ready to go shopping for their neighbours, help them figure out how to navigate online ordering systems, make check-in phone calls ― whatever needs doing,” says Gisela Ruckert, a N2N program coordinator.

Help requests or Community Food Centre meal delivery sign-ups can be placed through www.KamloopsCares.ca, or by calling (778) 696-2039.
