MERRITT, B.C. — Merritt RCMP say poor road conditions may have contributed to a crash that claimed one life east of the city Saturday (Nov. 14).

According to an RCMP news release, the collision took place at about 7:20 p.m. along the Okanagan Connector near Sunset Main Road.

Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says a white Dodge Ram pickup with four occupants veered off the highway, hit a large highway sign and rolled about 10 metres down an embankment.

The truck ended up on its roof and two people were trapped inside. O’Donaghey says passers-by tried to free them but needed the help of first responders.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other three were taken to hospital by ambulance.

O’Donaghey says investigators believe poor weather and road conditions were factors in the crash, while speed relative to road conditions and inadequate tires may have also contributed.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Merritt RCMP at (250) 378-4262.
