NorthPaws sign first baseman from UBC
KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops NorthPaws have added big first baseman Ty Penner for the 2021 season. Penner, from Lethbridge, is a sophomore with the UBC Thunderbirds.
“Ty is a plus defender at first base and he’s got a power potential as a big left-handed batting first baseman. He’s grown and gained muscle over the past couple of years,” said Sammie Starr, assistant coach with both the NorthPaws and Thunderbirds. “We’re pretty excited to see where he’s going to be by the end of the year.”
Listed at 6’4” and 215 lbs., Penner is certain to be one of the biggest NorthPaws when the team takes the field for its inaugural season.
“As a player, I try and bring a bat to the game,” Penner said. “I try and bring a bat that can hit for extra bases, whether its doubles or even home runs. I think my bat is the difference maker in the game, but I also try to play some solid, steady defense at the corners of the infield.”
