COVID-19 case count swells by 1,130 in B.C.; Kamloops count was 29 in October

VICTORIA — B.C. recorded 1,130 new cases of COVID-19 over the past two days, including a daily high 594 new cases Thursday (Nov. 12).

Thirty-four of the new cases reported by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry Thursday were found within Interior Health.

The new cases swell the provincial total to 20,368 cases since the pandemic arrived in B.C., spread through the province as follows:

  • 6,109 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 249)
  • 12,390 — Fraser Health (up by 808)
  • 324 — Island Health (up by 16)
  • 956 — Interior Health (up by 34)
  • 500 — Northern Health (up by 23)
  • 90 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

The 594 new cases Thursday were found in 12,442 tests, a positivity rate of 4.8 per cent.

There are now 5,793 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C., including 155 who are in hospital, 44 of whom are in critical care.

In Interior Health, there are 158 active cases, with one person in intensive care.

Four more people have died of the virus, bringing the provincial death toll to 288.

A total of 11,091 people are under active public health monitoring because they have had direct contact with known COVID-19 cases.

The number of people who have recovered from the virus has reached 14,089, or 69 per cent of all recorded cases.

Henry also revealed the latest ‘granular’ data Thursday, breaking down COVID-19 cases by local health area.

They show the Kamloops area recorded 29 cases during the month of October. There were 82 cases to the end of September, with the total now at 111. Kamloops recorded 22 cases in September and just seven in August.

  • North Thompson – 0 (unchanged)
  • 100 Mile House – 12 (up by 10)
  • South Cariboo – 8 (up by 2)
  • Lillooet – 2 (unchanged)
  • Merritt – 27 (up by 17)
  • Vernon – 43 (up by 16)
  • Armstrong-Spallumcheen – 5 (up by 3)
  • Enderby – 5 (up by 1)
  • Salmon Arm — 9 (up by 2)
  • Revelstoke – 3 (unchanged)
  • Central Okanagan – 409 (up by 126)
