REVELSTOKE, B.C. — A Falkland resident got their vehicle back from a thief thanks to an app on their phone.

According to Southeast District RCMP, the resident reported a Kia Sedona stolen from their home on Monday morning (Nov. 9).

The Kia’s owner was able to use an app to help Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP track the vehicle to the Revelstoke area.

That’s where a Revelstoke RCMP officer found the Kia, being driven along the Trans Canada Highway “in a dangerous manner, in the oncoming lane of the highway at a high rate of speed.”

When the officer tried to pull it over, the driver did not stop and the officer decided not to pursue it.

In conjunction with an RCMP aircraft, the app helped track the vehicle to Giant Cedars Boardwalk National Park northeast of Revelstoke.

The driver fled from the vehicle into the bush but was eventually collared by a traffic services officer.

A 34-year-old Alberta man faces potential charges.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Revelstoke RCMP at (250) 837-5255.
