Kelly Clarkson used her television platform to send some love to restaurant workers. She performed a cover of Donna Summer’s “She Works Hard for the Money.” She did an entire hour themed Restaurant Resurgence: Salute to Servers.

Considering the song’s history, it was perfect. Donna Summer was inspired when she met a waitress named Onetta at Chasen’s a West Hollywood restaurant. As the story goes, she went to the bathroom and saw her taking a nap with a small TV on. Donna startled the woman from her nap, and she told Donna she worked 2 jobs and was really tired. Donna thought to herself, ‘Wow, she really works hard for her money.” That same night she wrote the song and even worked in waitress’ name. 27 years later, thanks to Kelly Clarkson, the song continues to spotlight restaurant workers.
