VICTORIA — New regional health orders have been announced by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry as COVID-19 cases surge in B.C.

Dr. Henry announced 567 new cases of COVID-19 today (Nov. 7), bringing the total number of cases in this province to 17,716.

Cases of COVID-19 are spread through the province as follows:

  • 5,491 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 122)
  • 10,520 — Fraser Health (up by 411)
  • 289 — Island Health (up by 3)
  • 867 — Interior Health (up by 22)
  • 459 — Northern Health (up by 9)
  • 90 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

One more person has died of the virus in the past 24 hours.

Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and Fraser Health Authority have had the most significant increases. These regions are the focus of Dr. Henry’s new orders, with the exception of the Central Coast and Bella Coola Valley.

The orders focus on social gatherings, travel, group indoor physical activities and workplace safety and will be in place for the next two weeks. The bans will begin at 10 p.m. tonight (Nov. 7) and will remain in place through Nov. 23.

Within Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health, no social gatherings outside of the immediate household will be permitted. Funerals and weddings will be limited to the immediate household. No associated receptions will be allowed inside or outside the home.

Only essential travel is recommended within the two health regions and travel for sports has been suspended.

Businesses that operate group indoor physical activities must stop those activities until updated safety plans are in place and approved by a local medical health officer.

Workplaces must perform active in-person screening, ensure physical distancing can be maintained and masks are worn when appropriate.
