KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say a shoplifter produced a can of bear spray in making off with a jacket from a Sahali store Thursday (Nov. 5).

According to a news release, the incident happened at a store in the 1100-block of Columbia Street West at about 5:00 p.m. Thursday.

A shoplifter trying to steal a jacket was confronted by a staff member and they started a struggle over the garment.

As they struggled, the man took out a can of bear spray and threatened the staffer, before leaving the store.

“We are very happy that the bear spray did not deploy on the staff member and that no serious injuries occurred during this incident,” said Sgt. Darren Michels in the release.
