Kamloops non-profits to receive financial boost through United Way COVID-19 Survival Fund

KAMLOOPS – Not for profit social agencies in the Kamloops area will benefit from nearly $110,000 in funding raised through the United Way COVID-19 Survival Fund.

The fund is supported by a number of organizations including Interior Savings Credit Union. Interior Savings CEO Kathy Conway says the pandemic has put additional stress on the resources of non-profits and calling on them to do activities normally outside their mandates.

“Couple that with reduced fundraising activities and volunteer support, and it creates a very difficult environment for them to operate in,” said Conway.

The funding will be combined with the second round of funding from the federal government’s Emergency Support Fund to total nearly $280,000.

It will be dispersed by the United Way to support operational needs for organizations in the Thompson, Nicola and Cariboo regions.

The COVID-19 Survival Fund is supported by the Stollery Charitable Foundation, Teck Resources, Interior Savings Credit Union, Fortis BC, Canadian Tire, Enbridge, Scotiabank, the Government of Canada, and individual donors.
