QUESNEL, B.C. — RCMP in Quesnel are investigating a one day crime spree that led to the arrest of a woman who was detained by a security guard.

Quesnel RCMP say that on October 29, a woman is said to have entered the GR Baker Memorial Hospital and stolen a worker’s jacket, purse and wallet. The woman is then said to have visited a second business where she stole another worker’s credit cards from their wallet.

The woman then made several fraudulent purchases using the stolen credit cards, at four business in the Quesnel area.

As the woman was making a purchase at West Park Mall, an employee became suspicious and called security. Police say that when the security guard identified himself and tried to detain the woman, she attempted to run out of the mall.

That’s when the security guard grabbed the woman as she exited and a struggle ensued. The security guard held her on the ground until RCMP arrived.

Quesnel RCMP say they are investigating the actions of the security guard during the detention of the woman as well as the criminal activity leading up to the incident.

“The officers are gathering witness statements, surveillance video, cell phone video, and other evidence to ensure all investigational avenues are exhausted,” said Sgt. Richard Weseen of Quesnel RCMP.

Police say that a witness caught part of the incident between the security guard and the woman on their cell phone. RCMP hope to speak with the person who took the video as well as a male citizen who tried to intervene during the event.

If you are either of those people or also witnessed the event on Oct.29, you are asked to contact Quesnel RCMP at 250-992-9211.
